Fringe Events Feed off Major events

On the way from the Formula 1 Grand Prix back to the city one
passes this desolate area beneath Kings Highway. This site is
directly behind Crown Casino and is currently laid out with waiting
loops for taxis, left unused during the day. The area is an obvious
gap in the limited network of public space in Southbank.
proposal.
By upgrading the waiting loops as a race course for go-karts, an
exciting urban place may unfold. Racing enthusiast returning from
the Grand Prix can have a crack behind the wheel or just watch
others. The facilities required will be minimal. Moreover, the
go-kart track could even become an addition to the Crown Casino’s
entertainment offerings for the long term.

Formula 1 Grand Prix could be harnessed through fringe events to
turn left-over spaces into exciting urban environments.
